ALERT – GS2 Crash Report Short Forms

Effective July 1, 2010, Section 316.066(1)(e), Florida Statutes, requires short-form crash reports prepared by law enforcement to be maintained by the law enforcement officer's agency. General Records Schedule GS2 for Law Enforcement, Correctional Facilities, and District Medical Examiners, Item #197, Accident Report Forms: Motor Vehicle, currently addresses forms retained by law enforcement agencies when they submitted copies to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles under the previous statutes. With the new statutory requirement that the originating law enforcement office retain the short forms and DHSMV no longer receiving and retaining them, this retention is no longer adequate.

The Division of Library and Information Services is preparing a new item for the short forms establishing a retention that accurately represents the legal and administrative value of the record. Please retain these short forms until we notify you that this new GS2 item is approved for use.
