Legal basis: Chapter 84.266, Laws of Florida

Created: 1984, within Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, council of eight members appointed by Governor.

Duties: To serve as third party mechanism for protecting the constitutional and human rights of any HRS client within a program or facility operated, funded, regulated, or licensed by the Department. To receive, investigate, and resolve reports of abuse or deprivation of human rights referred to the Committee by a district human rights committee.
