New Public Library Directors in 2006
Bonnie Tollefson, formerly a reference librarian with Columbia County Public Library, is the new director of the Levy County Public Library System.
Joyce Pernicone moved up from assistant director to director of the North Miami Public Library when former director Ilene Vegazo retired in February.
John Callahan, former head of Delray Beach Public Library, became director of the Palm Beach County Library System in April. Former Palm Beach director Jerry Brownlee retired March 31.
Jennifer Beard, new city librarian for Winter Haven Public Library, joined the library’s children’s department in 1998 and was most recently head of Adult Services. The previous Winter Haven librarian, Kathryn “Kitty” Smith, passed away earlier this year.
Linda Hendrix, former Milton librarian, is director of the new Santa Rosa County Library System. Santa Rosa will leave the West Florida Regional Library System to establish its own single-county system on October 1.
Carl Copeland is the new director of the Gulf County Library in Port St. Joe following the retirement of Jean Faliski in March.
Flagler County’s new library director is Holly Albanese. Albanese came to Florida in 2004 from Rhode Island and was most recently employed at Florida Metropolitan University. Former Flagler director Doug Cisney retired in June.
Monika Knapp is now library director for the library she used as a child, the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library in Plantation, Florida. Knapp has worked at the library for 15 years and was assistant director for the past five years. Former director Dee Anne Merritt retired in June after 29 years with the library, 13 as director.
Sheldon Kaye became Lee County’s new library director in August. Kaye was formerly executive director of the Portland Public Library in Portland, Maine.
Alan Kornblau is the new director of Delray Beach Public Library. Kornblau was previously director for the Oakland Park Library for eight years.
